It is currently a favorite spot for those that enjoy a relaxing atmosphere under the sun. It´s part of the attractiveness of Old Mazatlán. This beach has witnessed innumerable historical events of our Port, since its time as a public pier where merchandise was brought-in from all over the world, and as a shelter for friendly --as well as enemy-- troops.
It is currently a favorite spot for those that enjoy a relaxing atmosphere under the sun. It´s part of the attractiveness of Old Mazatlán. It was named Olas Altas, or High Waves, due precisely to its waves, because, even if they´re not very high, they are in proportion to the size of this beach, and when they´re compared to the relative calmness of Mazatlán´s other beaches.
Olas Altas beach is the most preferred beach by surfers. It´s really popular for sunbathing, swimming and its unparalleled sunsets.
This beach holds its own unique mystery. Its shore´s sand switches sides every six months, leaving the ocean´s rock formations on the opposing side of the beach. Thus, sometimes the sand will be on the North end, and sometimes on the South end, with its rocks on the opposite end.
