The Carpa Olivera is an icon of Mazatlán´s past. This combination of European ideas and local talent brought about a unique building structure, a bit more functional than aesthetic. A beachfront restaurant was set before a swimming pool built on the seashore that is constantly being replenished by the ocean´s tides. Delicious regional specialties were served accompanied by live music, to swim-to and delight in unforgettable sunsets. This memorable place was put into operation by Antonio Olivera, during the first half of the 20th Century.
It´s located in the heart of Mazatlán´s Olas Altas area, off its boardwalk promenade, or Malecón. Besides being a historical landmark, it is a favorite gathering place for both locals and tourists alike, for its natural beauty. It is definitely one of Mazatlán´s emblematic attractions.
We are talking about the Carpa Olivera. It was built for a foreign chef by the name of Antonio Olivera, over 100 years ago. Back then, he invested heavily on a restaurant he opened at the site.
This magical place was visited by famous celebrities and political personalities of the time, including Pedro Infante, Ávila Camacho, Alemán Ruiz Cortines, singers and Mexican Presidents.
Come enjoy this “natural” swimming pool with your entire family!
